What I'm Reading: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins

What it's about:

Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place. (summary from amazon.com)

My grade: A

Who Will Like it: If you like action/fantasy books. This takes place in the future, and if you don't mind lots of characters dying.

Jennifer Lawrence plays the main character. I would never have recognized her with her dark hair!

Suggestions for Self-Tanners?

Hi Ladies! Anyone out there love self-tanner and have a product they love? Could you recommend it to me?

I'm looking for a new self-tanner, especially one that can be used on my face. I returned the last one that I tried, it was the Fusion Beauty self-tanner spray. It really worked the best of all the tanners I tried, but I hated the smell! So much that I couldn't stand it. It gave a very natural color for me, I looked tan. But I would smell it for 2 days after I used it, and especially so when I was sweating at the gym! It was too much for me.

I've tried a few other products. I don't mind the Jergens Gradual Daily Moisturizer with Self-Tanner available at drugstores, but I found that the medium/dark even didn't have much of an effect on my skin tone.

I am using this product right now for my face. I apply it at night:

I honestly can't tell a difference. It doesn't smell though! But no tanning effect. It does moisturize fairly well, so I'll keep using it for now.

Any recommendations?

New nars and lorac products purchased

I just purchased these new products---at least new to me. Only the eyeliner is technically new.

Have you tried any of these?

Nars Superorgasm. I have the original orgasm blush, and I love it. This has big gold flecks of glitter in it. Not shimmer, but chunks of glitter. I have yet to try it out, I just liked it so much in the pan.

This is the color swatch from online of the eyeliner I bought. Nars Larger than Life Eyeliner in 'Rue Bonaparte'. I have never tried Nars eyeliners, but I tried it on my hand in store, and it didn't seem to budge much. I got this to wake up my eyes when I'm tired.

Lorac Bronzer in Warm Glow.

I really like the shimmer that is in Lorac Bronzers. This is a light bronze with pink undertones, and shimmer.

I wanted the TanTalizer in Baked, but I didn't like the packaging. It seems messy, and was all over the display in the store. But maybe I will go back for that one.

I purchased these all with store credit from some returns I made awhile ago on self-tanners that I couldn't stand the smell of.

Reviews to come later as I try them out for awhile, but these are products I know I will love.

Sephora Giveaway!!

Hi Everyone,

I've decided to do a Sephora Giveaway since Sephora is my favorite store to shop at for all things beauty-related: makeup, tools, hair products, lotions, etc. I like Sephora because I like that there are so many different brands available, and that everything is available for trying on yourself in store.

I always have good experiences there with the salesgirls as well. They are very nice and helpful, without being too pushy.

My giveaway is going to be for $25 gift card to Sephora! Enter by commenting below.

Here's how to get more entries:

-Comment below with your email address (so I contact you if you win) for 1 entry (must be a follower of my blog)
-Link on your sidebar for 3 extra entries
-Blog about this giveaway and leave the link below for 5 extra entries

The contest ends September 30!

Thanks and good luck everyone!

Win A Sigma Eyeshadow Palette Giveaway!!

Click here to visit Madiha's Makeup Blog and enter to win!

Win one of these (your choice) eyeshadow palettes from Sigma Beauty.

I've seen a lot of bloggers review these palettes, and they all seem to really like them. This would be a fun way to try out a new brand. I've never tried sigma, but have been wanting to try them for awhile, especially their brushes, because bloggers seem to like them a lot. I don't like spending a lot on brushes, but if the brush is not soft, I really just end up not using them.

Have you tried any Sigma Products? What do you think of them? Have you tried their eyeshadow?

I like their cute colored brush sets, like this pink one.

Fall Wishlist

I love these bright red Cookie Johnson jeans. 'Joy' Legging in Radiant Red

I love my 'Faith' Straight Cookie Johnson jeans, but don't usually like the fit of skinny jeans, or leggings. Maybe these might work better with the spandex!

Here they are in white, these would look so cute tucked into fall boots! Cookie Johnson 'Joy' Legging in Optic White.

Stuart Weitzman Platswoon. I love these bright red pumps! They are so sexy.

I love that flared jeans are back! I love the look of these black Cookie Johnson 'Felicity' Flare jeans, but unfortunately, I don't like the fit! I ordered three sizes. My usual size 28 was too big in the waist, and the 27's were still a bit big in the waist, but too loose in the leg already.

Cookie Johnson jeans tend to stretch out a little after wearing. The 26's were way too small. I liked the idea of these jeans, but they are too low-rise for me, and didn't fit right.

Curvy women: Mad Men Era

From Time.com:

"Mad Men kicks off in the age of Marilyn, and the show's resident sex symbol is Joan, the curvaceous office manager who would scoff at the thought of wearing a minimizer bra. Back then, big busts and corresponding hips were in, and while small waists were part of the deal, size 2 wasn't something to strive for. Fashion flattered the hourglass figure, not the straight and narrow. Women looked more like females — you know, the gender capable of producing and nursing another human being — than like adolescent boys. Alas, this is the early '60s. Soon Twiggy will come along and ruin everything."

"One thing is clear: These women love their curves: "It's OK to have curves and be a woman. I wish more women would realize that's what men like," January Jones said. As for Christina Hendricks? "My healthiest habit is keeping positive about my body at whatever stage it is -- being confident and celebrating who I am at the moment."

A Too-Faced Makeup Giveaway on Veronika's Blushing!

Click the link above to enter a $50 giveaway to Apothica.com.

I love Too-Faced. Their eyeshadows in my opinion are very well priced, versatile, flattering, and the pallettes that I've had in the past I've always really liked all the colors.

I am wanting this palette, the 'Naked Eye' Palette, by Too Faced. I have the Urban Decay Naked Palette, but as you can see the colors are different! I also think their makeup is very well priced. It's not too pricey, but the formula for the eyeshadow is very good.

I really like the smaller size, and brush included, I think it would be perfect for travelling!

It's on my wishlist!

Essie's Cute as a Button Nails

Don't you love bright summer polish? This summer, I am loving Essie's 'Cute as a Button', a really pretty, bright pinky coral.
